Triad Cluster battle report: Orks vs. Space Wolves, the finale

We had the last battles for our Triad Cluster campaign a few weeks ago.  Here's some pictures, better late than never!  I played against Scott's Space Wolves, with Vanguard Strike deployment and we each had one objective to protect.

This weekend we got in our two-on-one game, Orks and Tau vs. Space Wolves.  See previous post for the scenario special rules.  

Bared Fangs: Prelude

This weekend we're going to have a two-on-one battle as part of our Triad Cluster campaign, with my Orks and Solomon's Tau double teaming Scott's Space Wolves.  Central to the game will be a crashed Thunderhawk, represented by the paper version above (or a re-creation) made by Jim Bowen that I won as a prize at a food drive hobby event we did a while back.

Before the minor sports kerfuffle that evening, Doug and I got a more important game in, a 40K match for our Triad Cluster campaign.  We went up to 1750pts so a few more things made appearances.

We had six evenly spaced objectives across the board, plus the relic in the middle and normal first blood, etc.  "Recon" deployment - 18" in but have to be over 24" from the enemy.

Our campaign has been rolling along, as have the Imperial victories.  With very few bumps in their progress, they threaten to win the campaign outright before long.  Even Commander FarOut (pictured above) could not thwart their designs.

We had a big turnout today, with twelve army-bearing players (and two others stopping by) and seven games - Orks vs. Sons of Horus, Sisters vs. Tyranids and then Eldar, Eldar vs Orks, SW vs. Orks, Necron vs. Tau, Blood Angels vs. Eldar.  On top of that there were some Warmachine demos and card games, making for a pretty packed store.

My second campaign battle this past Sunday was also against the Imperials, this time Doug's Sisters/Inquisition force.  1500pts, two missions - six evenly spread objectives and Relic, with old "spearhead" (table corner, 12" from center) deployment.

Setting up terrain I found this wonderful old but new to the store terrain piece in the back and resolved that it had to be used, so into the center of the board it went.  At first our benefactor was a mystery, but we later found out it had been left there by Colkillgore via Chuckaroobob, both of My Little World of Dementia.  Thanks fellas!

Our Space Wolf player has been busy.  Aside from his Thunderwolves he's got a fancy new entombed hero ready...

...as well as a Sicaran battle tank (JEALOUS) ready to enter the Holy Foam of Transportation.

AS YOU ARE DOUBTLESS AWARE, THE TRIAD CLUSTER HAS LONG BEEN A SCENE OF CONFLICT WITH VARIOUS XENO RACES, NOTABLY ORKS AND ELDAR.  FOR SOME TIME THE CONFLICTS HAD REACHED A ROUGH EQUILIBRIUM.

RECENTLY HOWEVER A SERIES OF EVENTS HAVE DISRUPTED THAT EQUILIBRIUM.

HERETICAL INFLUENCE AND WARP INSTABILITY HAVE BOTH BEEN ON THE RISE.  IT IS UNCLEAR IF THERE IS A DIRECT CONNECTION AND IF SO WHICH GAVE RISE TO THE OTHER.  THIS INSTABILITY IN THE WARP HAS APPARENTLY ALSO SERVED AS A BEACON TO OTHER MALIGNANT FORCES – AN INFLUX OF ORKS IS GIVING RISE TO A NEW “WAAGH”, A TYRANID HIVE FLEET IS ENCROACHING ON THE CLUSTER FROM THE GALACTIC EAST, AND MONITORING STATIONS NEAR LONG-DORMANT NECRON TOMB WORLDS ARE REPORTING INCREASED ACTIVITY.  ALSO OF NOTE IS A TAU EXPLORATOR FORCE THAT HAS BEEN OBSERVED MAKING COMMON CAUSE WITH THE ELDAR ON SEVERAL OCCAISIONS.

ALL IS NOT DARK HOWEVER MY LORDS.  WE HAVE MANY ENEMIES BUT THEY ARE DIVIDED WHILE WE STAND UNITED WITH THE FULL IMPERIUM BEHIND US.  EVEN NOW, FORCES FROM SEVERAL SPACE MARINE CHAPTERS HAVE ANSWERED OUR CALLS AND HAVE BEGUN TO DEPLOY – THE DARK ANGELS, SPACE WOLVES, AND FLESH TEARERS WILL SOON BE ENGAGING OUR FOES.  WE HAVE ALSO BEEN RECEIVING ASSISTANCE FROM THE ADEPTUS SORORITAS IN DEFENSE OF THREATENED SHRINE WORLDS AND IN PURGING HERETICAL AND GENESTEALER CULTS.
