Fourth War for Armageddon - Escape!

After the initial surprises and setbacks from attacks against better prepared than expected orks and surprise assaults from traitor forces, the Imperial forces fall back towards Hive Acheron to regroup.  Unfortunately their foes have cut off most avenues of retreat, and small forces try to punch through where they can.

This week we were playing the Ambush mission from the new rulebook, with a few modifications to fit the intention better (restrictions on value you get from deep strikers or flyers escaping).  I played against Cory's orks.  Given the mission I took an armored spearhead (command russ, other russ, hellhound, armored sentinel, two chimeras with infantry squads and a platoon commander).  Cory was also all mounted, with warboss in batlewagon with boyz and a big mek, and two trukks with more boyz.  Power Level 50.

New White Dwarf review!

I've been seeing some other reviews and posts about the new White Dwarf in its new format.  To be honest, I don't see what the big deal is about the new White Dwarf.

Literally, as the promise - again - of early copies for subscribers falls flat.

"Subscribers will receive their White Dwarf on or before it's release day."

Like back then.
And then.
Again, I fell for the promise of paying GW up front for getting copies sent to me early, for a fresh take on the magazine.  GW's overall been doing things pretty well lately, surely it will work out this time?
I did happen to be in the next town over where our official GW store is, and saw that they managed to get copies there for people to buy off of the shelves by the official release date.  So they do know how to get it to a particular location by a particular date, just not to me.  Is Tom Kirby in charge of White Dwarf customer distribution or something?

White Dwarf and Deathtongue!

By now you've all seen the front cover, so here's the back.
We've been hearing about the new era of White Dwarf, and wonder of wonders, the best part for me is that mine only came nine days after it was available in stores, compared to the frequent twenty-plus days or so that it used to frequently take.  I was half expecting to get my CSM preview issue a week after I had the codex in hand.  Even if this were the only positive change, I'll take it.  Maybe in a few years I can start getting it at the same time as the stores do.  Crazy, I know.

But there's more!

White Dwarf Delays?

(image from www.games-workshop.com)

What's up with White Dwarf these days?

For at least the past few months - maybe longer, but I've only really been paying attention the last few months - I've been getting my WD subscription three weeks AFTER the copies come into the local store, not "Early - subscription copies are sent out to arrive before the magazine hits the stores" as GW claims on their subscription page.

At first I just thought I was unlucky, but lately I've heard from other subscribers both locally and elsewhere that they're having delays as well.

How about you?  If you're a White Dwarf subscriber, post a comment as to how long the delays have been, when they started if you can remember, and where you're at (state or country).
