Hommlet and Beyond? RPG interlude

My regular (though infrequent) RPG group got together the other weekend and we were surprised by getting thrown into the above module (The Village of Hommlet), modified for 3rd Ed D&D and adjusted for 5th level PCs.  I was rather stoked about this and hope this will turn into a regular continuing feature.

Why?

Though I've played RPGs and D&D since the early 80's, I never really went through many modules.  In Search of the Unknown and Keep on the Borderlands, and part of some Dragonlance module once, but that's about it.  I had heard that a lot of them, namely the Slavers series, the Giants series and the Drow series link together, and had wanted to do an old-school campaign with them, either as player or GM and had mentioned this to Nathan, who apparently liked the idea and ran with it!  I think Hommlet is the first step down that epic path, which would please me to no end. 

We had pre-generated characters that we picked randomly, and I ended up with a halfling fighter (perhaps the guy on the cover?  Maybe he took included pregens and modified them, I don't know).  We've found our way to a ruined keep in the swamp, fought giant frogs and hacked our way through zombies, bandits and assorted humanoids and are hopefully closing in on the big cheese for this section. 

In other RPG news, with my life leaving me some more free time, I may be re-starting my own D&D game too, getting the party fresh from saving Maghribia and move them into the campaign finale in Mogambia, homeland of Prince Zuhuru.  Gnolls, ghouls, demons and more ahead!

Another friend John  has been talking about wanting to start some Savage Worlds Deadlands, and schedules permitting that may be on the table sometime too.  Maybe Sawed-off Sam, the ornery red-headed midget with a shotgun will make an appearance...

Mogambians and other RPG figs

 Some more figs for RPGs, continuing to scratch that itch instead of the Space Sharks at the moment.  On the right is a figure for the D&D game I run, a shaman type with ceremonial mask from Mogambia.  I painted him as an albino in tribute to one of the early bad guys from the Imaro stories.  He'll probably be one of the main bad guys, or perhaps one of the tribes will have a high incidence of albinism that they consider blessed.

Space Sharks...are not in this post

With the hobby time I've had available, I wasn't really in the mood to work on the Space Sharks.  During some recent RPG sessions, I did get an itch to work on some of the backlog of Reaper, etc. figures I've been acquiring, and following my own advice to work on what you're in the mood for I did up figures for one of our groups.

To the left here is my character, Christina, a cleric of Pelor, the stock D&D sun god.  I painted this fig a long time ago, but did a few touch ups and changes, notably altering her tabard to coordinate with another member's figure (below).

Hobby Progress...such as it is

Between weather, a very full opening few weeks for the semester, having a "cold" for two weeks and caring for my wife after knee surgery I haven't gotten much done hobby-wise lately, and I doubt much will get done in the near future.  When I have the time, don't feel like it (ie late at night when everyone else asleep), when I feel like it don't have the time.

Things will get back on track, but it may take a little while.

I have managed to squeeze a little bit in.  Mostly cleaning and putting figures on bases, for another side project.

Namely, the forces and foes of Mogambia!

Prepaints

Roll for initiative.

Counterfett was asking about the D&D prepaints I have, so here's some pics for him, and others if you're interested.  First is a group shot of most of the ones I have, showing a variety of sizes and plastic effects like the cool partly transparent elementals.  Front and center is Khonan, one of my Scythiak figs (basically a GW Catachan with some extra bits) for scale.  (As an aside, seeing him among fantasy figs gives me an idea...I need to get one of the Night Lords batwing helmets and make a Scythiak version of Warduke.)
