Fourth War for Armageddon: Planetfall

We had our next mission for our Armageddon campaign, a modified Planetfall mission (power level 75).  Chaos and Ork forces rain down from orbit upon the beleaguered Imperial defenders.  Above, some of sonsofsonsoftaurus' Ultramarines take up positions.

My early pictures of my own game seem to have disappeared.  I played against John W's Deathskulls. Bastion in the middle with a squad inside, squad and officer outside, squads and tanks spread out behind.  He brought an all infantry force aside from a dakkajet, and descended with a vengeance.

Fourth War for Armageddon - Escape!

After the initial surprises and setbacks from attacks against better prepared than expected orks and surprise assaults from traitor forces, the Imperial forces fall back towards Hive Acheron to regroup.  Unfortunately their foes have cut off most avenues of retreat, and small forces try to punch through where they can.

This week we were playing the Ambush mission from the new rulebook, with a few modifications to fit the intention better (restrictions on value you get from deep strikers or flyers escaping).  I played against Cory's orks.  Given the mission I took an armored spearhead (command russ, other russ, hellhound, armored sentinel, two chimeras with infantry squads and a platoon commander).  Cory was also all mounted, with warboss in batlewagon with boyz and a big mek, and two trukks with more boyz.  Power Level 50.

Fourth War for Armageddon, Day One

We started up our Fourth War for Armageddon campaign, with small (Power Level 25) games.  We played a modified Patrol mission, with the Imperial forces rolling out in clearing operations against resurgent Ork concentrations.  Along the way, many are ambushed by Chaos forces that have infiltrated on-world, as above.

Picture Dump: Merkan 76th IG vs. Orks

A few weeks ago I had a battle against Leonard's Orks as part of the lead up to our multi-player mega-battle coming up on the 19th.  It's been a while, so I won't do a blow by blow, just dump some pictures below and a brief commentary.  Between the lootas, morkonaut and grotzookas his shooting did a number on me, while he was able to make enough 5+ saves to keep hold of the center objective and win the game.  The good guys have lost every preliminary match, giving us a pretty steep climb for the megabattle, needing a blowout to win overall.

 

Combat Patrol: Fourth of July, Merka heck yeah!

Yesterday on the Fourth of July I attended a small Combat Patrol style event.  Given that it was the Fourth, I figured that the only choice to bring were the Merkan 76th.  I brought a platoon with two grenade launchers in the command squad, two infantry squads with plasma guns and autocannons, a vet squad with three plasma guns and a Chimera, an armored sentinel with plasma cannon, and an underpriced Wyvern.  Sonofsonsoftaurus also came along and served as Commissar, exhorting me to glory and recommending the more aggressive course of action whenever I was undecided.

40K League Wrap-up

The 40K league at Gaming Underground has wrapped up recently.  Last weekend they did the playoffs for the four tied for first, and Eddie's Grey Knights emerged victorious!  I ended up tied with Vinnie's Tyranids for second place.  Given the four way tie for first, there are those who would call that tied for 5th, but those are just petty.  ;-)

Today we did the army parade/painting competition segment of the league.  Unfortunately only four of us showed up for that, but I took pictures of the participants who did.  I had hoped to be able to see/take pics of everyone's stuff, but c'est la vie.  

 

League Battle Report: Merkan 76th IG vs. Chaos Marines

Sunday I played what may be my last game of our recent 40K league, against Will's Chaos Marines.  The top four scorers will go on to a playoff.  I have no idea of my score or relative standing, but with something like a 50/50 record if I do make it to the playoffs it will likely be as the fourth out of four.

This game was at 1750pts.  Since it was going to be the big points value, I wanted to bring in my big commander so General Starken (aka Iron Hand Straken) made an appearance as well as the things I'd recently painted, an autocannon squad and the Hydra.  We rolled up Purge the Alien (Kill Points) with a Hammer and Anvil (short edges) deployment.

It's been pretty wet and cold here lately, so I haven't had a chance to seal the things I've been getting finished, but other than that I'd say they're pretty much done.  Here's the counts-as Hydra. 

Workbench: Walking Dead and more!

I've made some more hobby progress this weekend.  Above are a pack of 25 zombies, waiting for me to get around to repainting Typhus.  In the meantime they may see use in some RPGs, especially and appropriately enough the zombie survival game we started up a few months ago.

I had another league game earlier this week, with Patrick coming over to pit his Necrons against the valiant sons of Merka.  We had 1500 pt forces, and rolled up a Crusade (five objectives) mission with Hammer and Anvil (short edges) deployment.

WIP Imperial Guard Hydra Flak Tank

With some time on my hands tonight, I was looking at an ebay rescue resprayed/partly falling apart Chimera hull I had and decided to rummage through some bits and put something together with it.  I decided upon a Hydra, though I went with some missile pods instead of autocannons.  Bonus with such conversions is that I can then play around and use it for other things, like another Manticore, or a Devildog (melta missiles!) or what have you.

This and the following few pics are not from my game, rather a couple shots from the table set up for Sunday's game between Vinny's Tyranids and Landon's Luigi Marines.  Lots of terrain rolled, and lots of big buildings on hand makes for a very crowded table!

Went down to Gaming Underground today, and got a non-league game in with Vinny.  He was debating which of the Trygon/Trygon Prime/Mawloc to use, so we set up for a test game with the Trygon Prime, his Nids vs. the Merkan IG, 1250pts.

Black Ops Friday: Imperial Guard Reinforcements

While looking at what to add to my Merkan Imperial Guard list for the league's bump to 1250, plus any changes I wanted to make, I knew I wanted some back-field capability.  The initial obvious answer is the IG's very own boogeyman, Marbo.  After working on the list, including Marbo, I had 90pts left over, and while I initially was going to just toss in another missile launcher squad, I thought about more guys to hang out with Marbo, and noticed that five stormtroopers with a flamer fit in at just the right budget.

But I didn't really have good models for those that fit in with the Merkans.

Yet.

Non-league and League Report: Merkan IG vs. Orks, Chaos Marines

Leonard down at Gaming Underground has been thinking about starting up an Imperial Guard army for himself, so I volunteered mine for a demonstration game.  We ended up with Big Guns Never Tire and set up the IG and Leonard's Orks for a throwdown.

League Report: Imperial Guard vs. Eldar 1000pts

I got my first game in for the new league the other night, against Steven's Eldar.  We weren't able to align our schedules to both getting to Gaming Underground at the same time, so he came by the Taurus Cave after work.  We set things up and prepared for a Kill Points, Hammer and Anvil random mission.

Initial thoughts on initial (1000pt) lists for the new 40K league.  Still undecided about which army to bring, still welcoming your thoughts!  These lists are for the three top contenders in my eyes, the Merkan 76th Imperial Guard, the Chaos-worshiping Scythiak Usurpation, and the Orks of Kaptin Krumpa.
