Deathfin Assault! Deathwing/Space Sharks WIP
After a LOT of soaking and scrubbing I got most of the paint off of the second-hand termies. Apparently a few layers down some of them had started out life as Ultramarines. Who knew? Some assembly and conversion later and here's where we stand at the moment. I still have to add the storm bolter bayonets, but then they should be ready to start the painting process.

Lost and the Damned Bibliography rolls along!
I've gone through most of the sources I could bring to hand personally, and have gotten a little help online too. Also thanks to the Overlords for their mention of the bibliography in episode 80!
As of this writing the list has 73 entries, with over 30 named factions from Blood Pact to Zoicans and a couple dozen unnamed ones. If you're interested in LatD or just read/listen to a lot of GW/Black Library stuff, please give it a look and let me know if you know something else I should include! Thanks!

Cheapo Deathwing
After a recent trade with ImpCommander, I now have the bodies for a 1500pt Deathwing army, pretty cheaply all told.
The army plan I have is for mostly shooty terminators. I know it's not the flavor of the month with the 3++ shields, but I like the shooty ones, and it's not like I'm trying to take this to the top of NOVA or something; it's just a lark army. With Belial, five squads of termies and a dread it's also pretty compact.

First Bite! Space Sharks Ironclad WIP
Hope that everyone had a good Christmas. During some down time last night and today I managed to glue this fella together, a pretty straightforward Ironclad Dreadnought for my Space Sharks.

Big Plans - 2012...2013...
Like the late Mr. Carr, aka "the Fox" to the left, I have a lot of unfinished business to attend to with my model collections. New armies, adding to existing ones, misc. projects.
We'll see how much of this mess I get through in 2012. Hopefully referring back to this list will help me to avoid purchasing too much new stuff. Unless the new Chaos kits look good. On to the list!

Captain Raptor!
Here's one of the books my son picked out at the library today.
I'm so proud.
In the fine tradition of super awesome mashups that make you wonder why they haven't been done as well before (see: Transformers, Dinosaur Train, etc.) and send kids into glorious rapture comes this combination of dinosaurs, spaceships, and pirates.
Told in a pulse-pounding melodramatic style it's sure to be endearing to pulp fans, and it's so chock full of awesomeness that a lot of it's pretty incidental, like the cyborg pirate dinosaurs with laser swords.
Let me say that again, in caps: CYBORG PIRATE DINOSAURS WITH LASER SWORDS!
Glorious.

There's more than one way to skin a heretic!
My bud Ethereal the Shadow gave me some good suggestions for my own recent Lost and the Damned fandex (which you can get in the tab above), some of which I was even smart enough to take!
Liking LatD himself, he put together his own version which you should check out too. He's got some interesting mechanics, and it looks like it would be a good way to represent a Rogue Trader's forces or the earlier stages of a rebellion before Chaos gets deeply involved and generally makes a mess of things.
There's lots of neat units like potentially infinitely respawning mobs of rioters, bike gangs, and saboteurs who can screw with enemy reserves. And who wouldn't want an army that generates CARNAGE TOKENS?
He's also a whiz with formatting so his looks very nice, with all those fancy boxes and whatnot. I'll have to see if I can get him to fiddle with mine for the next revision! If you like what you see with his LatD, also be sure to check out some of his earlier fandex efforts for the Tau and Sisters of Battle over at Ethereal's Projects !

Lost and the Damned Bibliography
Just wanted to point out the new tab up above (see it?) with the link to what I hope with your help can become a pretty exhaustive resource for reading about Lost and the Damned style forces in GW/Black Library publications. If you're interested, check it out, and if you know of things I've missed (and there are many!) please let me know!

11th Company Lost and the Damned Interview
For those interested, I recently recorded an interview with Pat from the 11th Company Podcast which should air in either episode 99 or 100. Check it out, and the 11th Co. in general!

Codex: Lost and the Damned - Example army list
I wanted to give folks a sample army list using Codex: LatD to show a little bit of how it works, so I threw one together. For some of the things I'll also give a little bit of exposition.

Codex: Lost and the Damned - Designer's Notes
I just wanted to share some thoughts on the Lost and the Damned codex from my perspective, shedding some light on why some choices were made and why others weren't.
From the beginning, the project was defined at least as much by what it was NOT going to try to be as it was by what it was trying to be.
It was not trying to "fix" Codex: Chaos Space Marines.
It was not trying to represent any single force, like an Alpha Legion cell or the Blood Pact - such forces could be made, but no single one would be the focus, and units would generally be kept generic.

What's Black and White and Red all over? Battle Report: Scythiak vs. Black Templars
In the second of my games at our local Games Day, I played Alex and his Black Templars, always a fun and tough opponent. We rolled up a five-objective Seize Ground with Pitched Battle deployment. With only two troops choices, could the Templars stem the Scythiak tide of bodies?

Snow Monkey Fight! Battle Report: Scythiak vs. Inquisition

At our local Games Day, my first game was against a fellow allegedly named "D.C." who posts over at Assault Phase. I brought in the Scythiak, he pulled out his Inquisition (Grey Knights henchmen) army and we played a 1500pt Annihilation/Spearhead match.

High Point Games Day 2011 - all over but the backaches!
Well our local Games Day has come and gone, and I'm pretty worn out. While not as big of a turn out as some of the previous ones, we still had around 25 folks and some fun games going on. I got in a couple of 40K games, but more on those later after I finish my last paper for the semester! For now I'll just toss up the pics of the games I wasn't involved in, with batreps to come later in the week.
It was great seeing some folks I rarely get to see these days, great to meet some new ones, and I managed to pic up some loot too. I got some free bits from Chris that will find their way onto the Space Sharks, and bought a few things - some bits that will find their way onto Scythiak tanks down the road from "D.C." over at The Assault Phase , some books from Chris, and one of the backpacks GW released with Apocalypse, with the swappable Cadian and Chaos labels from Bryan. He had it with the Cadian labels on, but those were swiftly switched out for the more proper Volscani ones!

Warboss inbound!
Recently two blogs I follow, Gone to Ground and Three Color Minimum held a caption contest for the fellow here on the left. Feeling the connection between the warboss and his favorite face-biter, I felt that a line from Babe would be appropriate. So did those running the contest, and soon the happy pair will be WAAAAGHing their way over here.
But...I don't have much use for a warboss myself these days - Kaptin Krumpa would get jealous. However, I know that there are a number of other local current or prospective warlords in my area who might be able to get proppa use out of him, likely overrunning my own armies in the process.
So local Ork players - anyone want a free warboss? With combi-skorcha, attack squg, bosspole and eavy armor he comes in at a reasonable 90 points, not bad for seven S6 attacks on the charge plus leadership benefits!

High Point Games Day 2011!
This time with heat!
This Saturday, December 10th the local gamers will converge on High Point for our semi-regular Games Day. If you are in the area or can manage to be in the area, come on out! I hope to be there more at least a good chunk of the day.
Here's some shots and info from last year's event. Typically there are a bunch of folks playing 40K and fantasy, a good bit of wheeling and dealing/model yard sales, and a number of folks playing other games like Aeronautica, BFG, Mordheim and others. This year will be in the same spot, but in a different part of the building, actually in the office areas with good lighting, heat, and non-scary bathrooms instead of the warehouse. Woot!
Typically we end up with around 50 folks total, so you should be able to find someone to play with. The doors will be open from 9am to 9pm, twelve hours of gaming goodness, and all it will cost you is a smile and two canned food items that we will collect and donate. Come on out! Hope to see you there!

No Necrons here. Some of the other stuff going on around the web!
While Necrons and 6th edition rumors have been dominating the blogs lately, when I've been procrastinating from real work I've been looking elsewhere. Here's some of the other cool stuff that you may have missed if you've been absorbed with Doomsday Arks, Resurrection Protocols, and how rapid fire may or may not change.
