Triad Cluster Campaign update

Our campaign has been rolling along, as have the Imperial victories.  With very few bumps in their progress, they threaten to win the campaign outright before long.  Even Commander FarOut (pictured above) could not thwart their designs.

Have axe will travel

Small interlude from the normal 40K posts.  Painted a fighter/barbarian type for RPG use.  Figure is a Reaper half-orc barbarian by John Manor (03197) with head swap from a WHFB Chaos Warrior.

Say it ain't so Carl! (and Geoff, and Adan and Justin and...)

All good things must come to an end.  So it is with the Independent Characters podcast which will have its last show in April.  I and their other listeners will be sad, and may even go into withdrawal in the weeks after, but it was great while it lasted.

I listen to a lot of podcasts, and while I enjoy them, the ICs stood above the crowd for me.  They ran a pretty professional ship and listening to their episodes you can tell they put a lot of prep and effort into them.

From the early days, they have been different from a lot of other shows.  I appreciate a codex review too, but it was nice to have a show that wasn't always chasing the most recent releases.  They covered things other shows sometimes touch on, but if you want the in-depth treatment, the IC episodes were gold.  Their enthusiasm really came through, and coverage of various secondary or side possibilities for the hobby did a really good job of giving you a picture of the upside and downside of things.  Aside from the actual hobby or book related discussions (their discussions of Imperial Armor/Horus Heresy Forgeworld books and Black Library discussions that often include the authors are stellar) they cover topics like "the true cost of 40K" which talks about the costs aside from monetary, and what your kids may think about it all.

As I said, I listen to a number of other podcasts, and they all have their unique things, but in lots of ways many of them are pretty similar.  The ICs were definitely unique, and will leave a gap in the community that will be hard to fill. It's been a great run and you should be proud of all you've accomplished. Thanks for all the shows, wish there could be even more.

Fare thee well Independent Characters.  You'll be missed but not forgotten.

Blogrolls

As they periodically do with site redesigns, the Bell of Lost Souls blog lists have been destroyed and they're looking for blogs to add.  Go HERE for the announcement and link to requirements if you have a blog you'd like for them to add.  I get a good many hits from them and have found a number of good blogs through their rolls in the past, so if you're looking for a little more visibility it's a great list to get on.

See you on the lists!

Triad Cluster Campaign: Orks vs. Sons of Horus, the horde descends

The Blood Axes throw down with the Sons of Horus!

We had a big turnout today, with twelve army-bearing players (and two others stopping by) and seven games - Orks vs. Sons of Horus, Sisters vs. Tyranids and then Eldar, Eldar vs Orks, SW vs. Orks, Necron vs. Tau, Blood Angels vs. Eldar.  On top of that there were some Warmachine demos and card games, making for a pretty packed store.

Vive Voltaire, vive la France, vive Charlie

I personally normally don't go for this sort of stuff, with naked prophets and whatnot, but if there are people who hate it as much as we've just seen it deserves wider dissemination.

Aside from the most famous quote that inspired this, here's some other appropriate ones from monsieur Voltaire:
To the wicked, everything serves as pretext.

Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities.

It is difficult to free fools from the chains they revere.

I have never made but one prayer to God, a very short one: 'O Lord make my enemies ridiculous.'  And God granted it.

To hold a pen is to be at war.

In the grim darkness of the far future, there are only pens.

Hell, while we're at it:

More posts about pretend spaceman death and destruction in a few days.

Wild Bunch part 2

Group shot of the mixed bag of renegades for the Endless Ones.  Assembled in March last year, got around to painting recently.

Rather than agonize about color schemes, I settled on a simple plan.  I picked out twenty paints I thought were cool and set them in a line.  I put the figures in a bucket.  I set a paint aside, pulled out a figure, and put it next to the paint.  Repeat.  That would be their primary color.

Still need basing and sealing, but they should be ready the next time I break out the Endless Ones.

Triad Cluster Campaign: Orks vs. Death Cult (and some Adeptus Sororitas)

Celestine phases into battle with a big thumbs up from Doug
My second campaign battle this past Sunday was also against the Imperials, this time Doug's Sisters/Inquisition force.  1500pts, two missions - six evenly spread objectives and Relic, with old "spearhead" (table corner, 12" from center) deployment.

Triad Cluster Campaign: Orks vs. Space Wolves - Comm Center Chaos!

Setting up terrain I found this wonderful old but new to the store terrain piece in the back and resolved that it had to be used, so into the center of the board it went.  At first our benefactor was a mystery, but we later found out it had been left there by Colkillgore via Chuckaroobob, both of My Little World of Dementia.  Thanks fellas!

Scott's Space Wolves and I squared off with the complex in between and prepared to bring the pain!

Triad Cluster Campaign: Wolftime!

Our Space Wolf player has been busy.  Aside from his Thunderwolves he's got a fancy new entombed hero ready...

...as well as a Sicaran battle tank (JEALOUS) ready to enter the Holy Foam of Transportation.

But will this painting mojo carry over to the battles?  Well, we have our first battle in, with the Space Wolves vs. one of my fellow orks:
