All good things must come to an end. So it is with the Independent Characters podcast which will have its last show in April. I and their other listeners will be sad, and may even go into withdrawal in the weeks after, but it was great while it lasted.
I listen to a lot of podcasts, and while I enjoy them, the ICs stood above the crowd for me. They ran a pretty professional ship and listening to their episodes you can tell they put a lot of prep and effort into them.
From the early days, they have been different from a lot of other shows. I appreciate a codex review too, but it was nice to have a show that wasn't always chasing the most recent releases. They covered things other shows sometimes touch on, but if you want the in-depth treatment, the IC episodes were gold. Their enthusiasm really came through, and coverage of various secondary or side possibilities for the hobby did a really good job of giving you a picture of the upside and downside of things. Aside from the actual hobby or book related discussions (their discussions of Imperial Armor/Horus Heresy Forgeworld books and Black Library discussions that often include the authors are stellar) they cover topics like "the true cost of 40K" which talks about the costs aside from monetary, and what your kids may think about it all.
As I said, I listen to a number of other podcasts, and they all have their unique things, but in lots of ways many of them are pretty similar. The ICs were definitely unique, and will leave a gap in the community that will be hard to fill. It's been a great run and you should be proud of all you've accomplished. Thanks for all the shows, wish there could be even more.
Fare thee well Independent Characters. You'll be missed but not forgotten.
I had just started listening to these guys too. Everyone should start a little thread/blog post on other podcasts everyone listens to, so we can find new avenues for our fixes! I'm hoping the IC guys will show up in other podcasts as guests :).
ReplyDeleteAt the top I have a tab for the podcasts I typically listen to.
