Battle Report: Word Bearers vs. Dark Eldar Kabal of the Thousand Paper Cuts

I took some me time this afternoon and took the Hell Hounds over to Hobbytown to see folks and try to get a game in.  Did a little chatting and got a game in with jbowen's Dark Eldar, the same guys (with a different build) that I fought a while back with the Deathfin.

We did 1500pts and rolled up Annihilation/Dawn of War.  I won the roll-off but let him go first, figuring that with Acute Senses he would benefit more if more of my stuff was on the table turn one.

Warboss has a home

At long last, the prize Warboss has a home.  Between months of irregular visits to the local game store and local Ork players not showing up, I had a hard time unloading the fella.  Yesterday I compromised when Impcommander mentioned he had brought his WHFB Orcs for a fantasy game later.  I figured that warp travel can work in strange ways, so the boss found himself among a bunch of primitives.  The shoota-skorcha can be the justification for some manner of magic item, or maybe by now he's out of ammo and just uses it to konk boyz about the head with.

Here he is alongside a primitive warbuggy.

Yeah, he's on the wrong shaped base, but *I'm* not going to try to tell him that.

Maybe he'll inspire his new owner to start a 40K Ork army, who knows?

It was also fairly warm out today, so I snuck out to spray seal the Deathfin.  The extra clear parts of the decals are standing out, so I think I may have to go back over them carefully with some black (or whatever color is on the part with the decal) to cover the untrimmed parts up.  Oh well.

Space Sharks: Deathfin update

We've had a very mild winter here so far, snow & ice wise.  Last night was our first dusting, with about an inch on the ground and a dusting on the roads after a little bit of sleet & rain.  Being the South and not having had any days off yet, the local schools closed down.  Sonofsonsoftaurus and I are therefore home, allowing me to snap a few pics of the Space Sharks that I got decals on and based this weekend and load them up!

Prisoner expanded - part 2 - Orks

In previous posts we've looked at the rumored rules in general and at how they might affect my loyalist marines. Now let's take a look at my Orks.

Everything Old is New Again

Back in the day when I was first painting miniatures the minis were lead from Grenadier and the paints were enamels from Testors. There were some cool things you could do with enamels, especially if you wanted something shiny. Over time the lead went out of figures and I switched over to acrylic paints that could be worked with just using water instead of having to use chemical thinners to clean your brushes.

Why tell you this, other than to establish that I've been around a while and that during my youth I was exposed to potentially harmful chemicals? It will be relevant, I promise. But first another interlude.

Prisoner expanded - how will rumored 6th ed rules affect different armies? Part 1

So, we've looked at the rumored rules and considered some of their implications, but if they're real what might they mean to a real existing army?

Let's take a look at a few of mine and see.

The Prisoner has escaped! "Number 6" breakdown and thoughts

When earlier 6th edition 40K rumors (or "rumours" as the Brits call them) came out I was skeptical.  Assault before shooting?  Multiple levels of a rule? Bidding for first turn? A lot sounded unlikely in the individual and partial glimpses that the rumors teased with. The "Project Prisoner" (a reference to the TV show where the main character is referred to as "Number 6", hence 6th edition) was undoubtedly coming, but in what form was still pretty unclear.
